Application

To develop a test bed to study the hysteresis in engine thermostats and to produce a batch production quality control system to check that the thermostats manufactured always open and close at the required temperature.

Brief

We were approached by a major thermostat manufacturer to develop a system to measure the movement in a car thermostat over a wide temperature range, and to develop a special host PC software program to control and interpret the results.

Skill and technology

Our knowledge of wide-range temperature control from -50 to 450ºC, coupled with our data acquisition experience and host PC software and sensor technology, all integrated into a single system.

The outcome

We have designed, developed and tested both hardware and a unique software program. The units have gone into limited production for manufacturing plants in both the UK and India.
